Adelaide School is very excited to start working towards their Green Flag award as part of Eco-Schools. This will involve pupils from different years forming a committee to see how we can make changes to our schools environment and our community to become more eco-friendly and sustainable.
So far, our environment group have already taken place in various activities such as - planting trees, litter picking, volunteering at a nature reserve, farm visits, creating a bug hotel, bird and bat boxes, making recycled art, forest school and planting flowers and vegetables in our courtyard garden.
Our Eco-Commitee have completed the environmental review of our centre, looking at which areas of the school are working well environmentally and which require improvement. From this review we have then scored which is our highest area of need in the school and picked three out of a possible ten areas we want to work on. I am pleased to announce the three topics we will focus on over the next academic year are Energy, Biodiversity and Waste.

🌿 Eco-Schools Green Flag Award 2024 🌿
We are thrilled to share that our school has been awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag in recognition of the fantastic environmental work led by our Eco-Committee!
The committee, made up of 8 students and 2 staff members, has shown amazing teamwork, creativity, and dedication. A big thank you to our Year 11 student who takes the minutes at every meeting with real professionalism. We’re now encouraging other students to get involved in this role too, helping them build key skills like communication and teamwork.
One of our highlights was completing the Environmental Review together. It helped us see how far we’ve come and where we can still improve. After researching and voting, we chose to focus on biodiversity, energy, and waste in our Action Plan—and it’s packed with exciting projects!
We’re especially proud of:
A brilliant lesson series on renewable energy, including a sustainability walk and student pledges.
Year 10’s hands-on day litter picking, planting trees and flowers, then writing about it for our newsletter.
Creative links to art and geography, showing how sustainability fits across the curriculum.
Our Eco-Board showcases our journey and our Eco-Code is a powerful and creative reflection of our values and message to show our ongoing commitment.
Community support has played a huge role, and we’ve worked with a range of local groups and organisations. We’re so proud of everyone involved. Your hard work has made a real impact—and it’s just the beginning.
Well done, Eco-Team, and thank you to everyone who helped us earn this amazing award!
