In English pupils did research on the companies that they will be meeting in the virtual careers expo later in the week. In RE pupils looked at all the skills that are developed by studying that subject and how vital they are for their own future careers. Pupils in year 10 joined the Cats Protection League for a virtual talk about what the charity do and what is involved in being a Community Engagement Officer. |

In Food Technology Lessons pupils were visited by Jo our Canteen Supervisor. She told them about her career journey which included a Pub, Nursing home( where she cooked meals and also cooked with adults with learning difficulties), she then worked in a café at a garden centre before her current job as canteen supervisor. They discussed the tasks that she has as part of her job in school and why they are so important. Pupils asked lots of questions and we really appreciate her sharing her journey with us.
In RE pupils worked together to create a mindmap of the skills they use and learn about in RE lessons. They went on to look for a job or course they are interested in and looked at the skills required for it and how they match up to skills from RE. In Finance pupils learnt about types of contracts: full time, part time and zero hours. Legal ages for work and restrictions. They also learnt about calculating pay based on number of hours worked. In English year 10 pupils used their skills to research the businesses who will be presenting to them tomorrow in their virtual careers expo. In PSHE Pupils have discussed what future careers they would like and what transferable skills they have and need to develop in order to achieve their goals. |

Years 8, 10 and 11 took part in virtual careers encounters. Later on in PSHE year 11 identified ways they can prepare for a job interview and discussed ways they could improve chances of securing employment through job interviews. Year 9 focused on identifying personal strengths and managing their online presence. Pupils developed knowledge, skills and positive attributes relating to social media use and how this can help students to understand how this can affect a person’s employment opportunities in the future.
In PSHE on The Link pupils looked at the different roles of hospital staff. They discussed why there may be more females in nursing and midwifery roles and what qualities and skills would be needed for these jobs. |

Day 5 of National Careers Week started off a little snowy but soon cleared in time for our visit to the Crewe Lyceum Theatre. During the visit, students received a tour of the theatre, including access to the stage, and learnt about the history of the theatre and celebrities who have performed there. On arrival, students went to the “Lyceum Studio”, where the different roles of the theatre were discussed. Students (and staff) took part in an interactive game to see how many different roles they could identify, with some fantastic knowledge being demonstrated. Our guide, Hollie, explained that there is over 100 different roles within the theatre!
In PE today pupils discussed different career paths leading from this subject. For example they talked about football managers and how they become qualified. John Cheadle Mr Cheadle explained the route that managers would need to take including the qualifications they would also need to hold. They also talked about careers in athletics and how the role of a chef is extremely important within the sporting industry.
Pupils in Adelaide Link joined a virtual session with the Cats Protection League this morning about careers within the charity sector.
